About us

Our History

Jordans Picture House was established on a three months trial basis by a group of volunteers in 2016 with the aim of providing accessible, affordable community cinema in the heart of our village. In our first season we showed ten films,  eight  of which were sell-outs. Nearly 500 tickets were sold. Clearly a new "go-to" village event had been created, and there was no turning back!

We are now firmly established as an award-winning properly formed Society with a Constitution and a Committee (see our "People" page) and we offer lifetime membership for a nominal fee (£10) to those who wish to show their support in this way.

Convenient Location

We are based in the much-loved, characterful Jordans Village Hall built by the Quakers in 1919, in the heart of the village and easily accessible for those with limited mobility.

High Quality Screenings

Early in 2017 after only a few months of operation we were delighted to receive an award of projection equipment from the BFI (British Film Institute) and this enables us to provide extremely high quality screenings on our 3.5 metre screen, with full surround sound through eight speakers.

Licensed Bar

Our fully licensed bar opens 45 minutes before the screening, offering a variety of wine, beer, soft drinks, tea and coffee, ice cream and nibbles. It's a great place to gather to  discuss the evening's film or just to socialise. Always popular!

Comfort

We have 60 extremely comfortable, spacious seats with armrests and excellent lumbar support - no cushions needed, no nagging backache even after those longer films!

Hearing Loop

As a further enhancement to our already excellent 8-speaker sound system, we have installed an induction loop for the benefit of those with impaired hearing. With hearing aids switched to their "T" setting, it conveys the film soundtrack with exceptional clarity.
